The Archimedes Screw Turbine System within the Scope of Licensed Electricity Generation

Mikrohes Enerji ve Teknoloji A.Ş. stands out with its innovative solutions in the field of renewable energy. Thus, within the framework of the provisions of the Electricity Market Law No. 6446 and the relevant regulations, it aims to increase efficiency by integrating the Archimedes Screw Turbine System in order to increase capacity in operating hydroelectric power plants.

The Archimedes Screw Turbine System:

The Archimedes Screw Turbine System is an innovative solution designed to generate energy from low head and low flow rivers. This system can be integrated into the water transmission canals and tailwater canals of existing hydroelectric power plants to utilize the idle hydroelectric energy potential.

Capacity Increase Request:

Under the Electricity Market Law No. 6446 and the regulations issued pursuant to this law, capacity increase requests for hydroelectric power plants are subject to certain procedures. With the integration of the Archimedes Screw Turbine System, capacity increase requests can be realized as follows:

Preparation of Justification Report

The license holder of the respective hydroelectric power plant is to prepare a detailed Justification Report supporting the capacity increase request. This report must include an assessment of the idle hydroelectric energy potential on the water transmission canal or tailwater canal of the existing plant and the benefits of Archimedes Screw Turbine System integration. The Justification Report must be submitted to DSI in three copies.

Obtaining Endorsement

DSI reviews and endorses the submitted Justification Report. After obtaining the endorsement, a Revised Feasibility Report must be prepared.

Preparation of Revised Feasibility Report

For the capacity increase request, a Revised Feasibility Report is prepared in five copies. This report details the capacity increase and Archimedes Screw Turbine System integration within the scope of the existing generation license. The report is to DSI along with a receipt showing that the current report review fee has been paid.

Referral to EMRA

If DSI endorses the Revised Feasibility Report upon review, it directs the respective company to EMRA for license amendment.

Benefits:

The Archimedes Screw Turbine System can be integrated into the water transmission canals and tailwater canals of hydroelectric power plants, as well as low flow and low head rivers, to increase efficiency. The following advantages are achieved with the integration of this system:

Energy Efficiency

More power is obtained by increasing the energy generation capacity of plants.

Environmental Sustainability

Utilization of idle water resources contributes to minimizing environmental impacts.

Economic Gains

Economic efficiency is achieved by reducing energy production costs and using existing infrastructure effectively.
